Jeff's Year in Germany

Last Updated: 25, January 2002

Well, since everyone is curious to see what my life in Germany looks like, I've decided to put up some web pages with the pictures I manage to take. Some of the pages have a large number of pictures, but I've tried to keep them set up so you don't have to wait too long for any one page to load on slower modem connections (which is what I'm stuck using until the DSL line arrives from Deutch Telekom).

First and foremost people have asked about the house. So, I've prepared a semi-guided tour of the house and the immediate neighborhood around it.

Number two on the list is always questions about the beer. So, I'm going to give everyone some details of both the beer and the wine as I sample some of each. I'll keep these lists growing as time and liquid capacity allows, so check back every week or so for additions.

With my return to Europe in 2002, I find myself with a whole new set of currency to handle. The Euro. As I write this 1 Euro is worth about 89 cents in US dollars. I do think they went too far by including a 2 cent coin though. It's really just overkill.

Notes come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 250, and 500 Euros. There are 1 and 2 Euro coins, as well as pieces for 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, and 1 Euro cents. I admit there is some symmetry to the increments, but I personally think they could have done without the 2 cent and 2 Euro coins.

Regardless, on the assumption that most of you have never seen a Euro, I decided to prepare a page with some pictures of the bills and coins I have. I appologize if the resolution isn't fantastic, but I didn't want to get accused of counterfeiting.
